The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducts counselling for 15% AIQ seats in government medical colleges, 100% seats in central institutions (AIIMS, JIPMER, ESIC, AFMC), and 100% of deemed university seats. For 2026, MCC is expected to conduct 3 online rounds plus a stray vacancy round.
Your NEET All India Rank (AIR) is used for MCC AIQ counselling. Your state merit rank is used for 85% state quota seats, which are filled by respective state counselling authorities (RUHS for Rajasthan, CETCELL for Maharashtra, etc.).
As of 2024, India has 706+ government medical colleges with approximately 1.08 lakh MBBS seats in government institutions. Through AIQ (15%), approximately 16,000 seats are available for national competition. The remaining 85% (approximately 92,000 seats) go through state counselling, where domicile and state quota rules apply.
